Texas Holdem Starting Hands
Your starting hands is important on how you handle yourself pre-flop and post flop. Your texas holdem position is related to which hands you play and don’t play. Playing the wrong cards out of position can be a really big waste of poker chips. There’s nothing worst than being in a hand you shouldn’t be in and playing up against an aggressive player that keeps raising and re-raising every chance he/she gets. With that being said, read the following carefully and put it to good use. This is the makings of a tight player. Loose players feel free to make changes and see how it works out for you.

Short Handed Texas Holdem Starting Hand Chart
Let’s start with under the gun (UTG) since this is the position you will play the tightest. Since all other players will be going after you. They could easily slow play a monster hand or even steal the pot if you show weakness. I highly recommend only playing premium hands in this position. You should be playing AK and AQ off-suit, AK to AJ suited as well as KQ suited, and last but not least you should be playing pocket pairs from aces to eights. Everything else should be folded while in first position. Also, play the small blind (SB) and big blind (BB) as you would under the gun to minimize chip lost and maximize profits.
In middle position (MP) you want to keep playing the hands from UTG as well as add a few more hands to your hand range. KQ and AJ off-suit are playable as well as pocket sixes and sevens. Keep an eye on how your opponents handle themselves while you are playing to know when to fold. Keep a playing tight to maximize profits.
In the cut-off position (CO) and dealer positon (Button) you want to really open your hand range to keep your opponents guessing what you have as well as more chances of hitting your card on the flop to make a pair, two pair, or a set. In this position you want to add a wide range of hands to your line up. A10 to A8 off-suit, KJ and K10 off-suit, QJ and Q10 offsuit, ace suited with anything, any good suited connectors, and one-gappers like 9J suited. Make sure you keep throwing away bullshit hands though.
Now that you know what to play in each position. One more tip you should know about playing these hands. Always raise pre-flop (unless you are big blind with a bullshit hand), yeah you are throwing 2 big blinds in the pot. However, you keeping players with bullshits from seeing the flop and catching the card they need to make some silly hand like a full house with 2s and 3s. As for post flop, you want to learn your texas holdem outs and texas holdem odds.
